SERVICE PROJECTS

DR. BETTY SHABAZZ DELTA ACADEMY & DELTA GEMS
The goals of Delta Academy are to provide young girls with supervised and structured experiences that broaden their world views, improve their academic performance, increase their technical skills and give them opportunities for leadership and service. The curriculum for Delta Academy focuses on the five points:

Math
Career Opportunities
Personal Development
Physical Fitness and Mental Health
Science and Computer Technology

SAT PREPERATORY PROGRAM
For more than 25 years, Hartford Alumnae’s award-winning SAT Prep Program has equipped students with strategies to improve their test-taking skills. In 1981, the Hartford Alumnae Chapter established a SAT review and preparation program at Weaver High School in Hartford CT. Over 2,000 students have participated in the review program and have attended HBCU’s and prominent universities.

DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. SCHOLARSHIP BREAKFAST
Celebrating its 22nd anniversary, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Breakfast continues to be Hartford Alumnae’s signature fundraising program. Proceeds from the breakfast enable the chapter to award renewable scholarships to talented graduating high school African American girls. With the help of corporate and community sponsorship, we have been able to award more than $100,000.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY PARTNERSHIP
Building Homes, Building Lives is the goal for Habitat for Humanity. The Hartford Alumnae Chapter partners with the Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity to help eliminate poverty housing. Hartford Alumnae actively participates in the ongoing building of affordable housing. We host an annual Greek Build with other Pan-Hellenic organizations in June.

JOHN E. ROGERS GOLF TOURNAMENT
Annually, the chapter hosts a golf tournament in honor of Dr. John E. Rogers—a renowned local teacher, lecturer, historian and consultant of Black history and culture. Proceeds from the tournament support the establishment of the John E. Rogers African American Cultural Center. The center will be used to house his valuable collection of historical materials and other contributions of prominent African Americans.
